The Background

My journey into the child welfare system didn’t begin in an office; it began at home. In 2020, I opened my doors as a kinship foster parent for my second cousin. Walking that long, often heavy road toward adoption, I saw more than just paperwork and systemic gaps—I saw the light return to a child’s eyes when they finally realized they were safe.

But that joy was shadowed by a haunting reality: 15,000 young souls age out of the system every single year with no one to call when they’re scared, and no home to return to for Sunday dinner. To know the life-changing power of a family and then realize that thousands of young men are left to face the world in total silence is a heartbreak that demands action.

Good Brother Group Homes was born from the belief that no one should ever have to trade a childhood of survival for an adulthood of isolation. We don't just provide a bed; we provide a brotherhood, ensuring that when the system says goodbye, we say, "We got your back!"

The Founder

Gina Edwards

I founded Good Brother Group Homes with a singular, non-negotiable purpose: to dismantle the aging-out cliff that haunts young Black men in Philadelphia. For too long, the transition out of foster care has been a drop-off into isolation rather than a step into adulthood. A standard housing program is simply not enough to solve a systemic crisis of this magnitude. That is why we engineered a high-velocity residential environment designed to bridge this gap, replacing state dependency with absolute autonomy and a clear blueprint for the future. We are not a shelter; we are a functional laboratory for professional and personal excellence. Our model moves beyond mere employment by integrating elite mentorship with trade-track mastery in high-demand fields like HVAC, electrical, and plumbing. By prioritizing specialized training and financial discipline, we move our residents from a system of care to a life of power. This is an active learning ecosystem where the residence serves as a training ground for the soft skills and professional habits required to lead in the modern economy. At the heart of our mission is the creation of a lifelong brotherhood of earners and leaders. We believe that aging out should never mean moving out into the world without a support system. Through our Life-Lab environment, we cultivate the emotional resilience and social capital necessary for these resilient young men to thrive as independent property owners and entrepreneurs. Whether you are a young man ready to claim your path forward or a community partner looking to invest in a proven model that delivers results, the mission starts here.
